Treating Gum Disease With Our Periodontal Solutions in Sugar Land, TX

During your first visit at Fort Bend Perio, we perform a comprehensive periodontal evaluation, including a dental exam, precise pocket measurements, and digital imaging. This allows our team to accurately diagnose gum disease and create a personalized treatment plan designed to restore long-term oral health.

How Periodontal Disease Affects Your Health

Some studies have shown that your risk of experiencing a heart attack or stroke is three times greater if you have an oral disease. It’s also linked to diabetes and dementia. Here, Dr. Dyer explains how untreated periodontal issues increase inflammation throughout your entire body, increasing your risks for life-threatening medical conditions. Treating periodontal disease early can help reduce chronic inflammation and support overall health, not just your smile.

Signs You Need Gum Disease Treatment

Gum disease, like gingivitis, is often referred to as a silent disease because many of the early signs are not visible to the naked eye. However, if you notice any of the following symptoms, you may have periodontal disease and should be evaluated by a dental professional.

  • Red or Swollen Gums

  • Bleeding While Brushing

  • Receding Gums

  • Loose Teeth

  • Pockets Between Gums

  • Sores on Gums

  • Persistent Bad Breath

  • Change in Bite

Frequently Asked Questions

  • In the early stages of gum disease, called gingivitis, we can often use conservative, non-invasive treatments to remove the plaque and tartar that is below the gum line. This is essential to ridding the gums of disease. A deep cleaning called “scaling and root planing” uses special tools to clean under the gums, where normal dental tools can’t reach. Once this area is clean, the gums can reattach to the teeth and begin to heal. Periodontal maintenance appointments are essential after a scaling and root planing to help keep the plaque and tartar around the gums and roots of teeth at a minimum, so we’ll develop a schedule that meet your unique needs here in our Sugar Land office.

We also offer treatment using the Perio Tray® by Perio Protect. If a bacterial infection has caused your gum disease, you can use the Perio Tray to apply medication directly to and under the gums to fight off the infection.

  • Tissue damage that is extensive, or gum disease that has advanced to the periodontitis stage, may require surgical treatment. When you come in for a consultation, we’ll assess your needs and make a recommendation that is right for your current dental health.

We use advanced laser technology, which is often less invasive than traditional scalpel surgery and also heals quicker. To keep patients comfortable, we offer various sedation options to minimize any discomfort during surgery.

Dr. Dyer and Dr. Nguyen, along with our experienced staff, will cover all of the details with you regarding your surgery and will address any concerns you may have.

  • We understand that dental costs can be overwhelming. Once our periodontists provide a proposed treatment plan, our staff will walk you through an itemized list of the costs. We will also support navigating your insurance, to help you receive the maximum coverage possible. It’s important to us that our patients receive the care they need, and we’ll help you explore different payment options.
